Matrix battles the Dragons
Updated 3/30/2010
Hi Matrix Fans, The Orange played well again this Sunday. Millville hosted the Cherry Hill Dragons on a breezy afternoon at Lakeside. Constant pressure by the Matrix resulted in a goal halfway through the first half. The Dragons breathed fire and leveled on a penalty kick a few minutes later. Despite having several breakaways, the Matrix couldn't cash in again before the break. In the second half, the Matrix once again mounted strong pressure against the opposition outshooting Cherry Hill by a margin of 7 to 2. Hard work paid off when Millville converted a free kick. The Dragons mounted a late charge but the Matrix keeper proved up to the test and denied them between the pipes. Well done Matrix. In spite of variable wind conditions and an extremely fast playing surface, the team used skill and passing to equal the challenging conditions. Enjoy your Easter holiday and then join us in Cherry Hill as the Matrix visit the Tsunami. Who rocks? We rock! Who rocks? We rock! Matrix rocks!

Matrix vs. Highland in Season Opener
Updated 3/30/2010
The Matrix opened their 2010 Spring season with a tight contest against the Pirates of Highland. Both teams battled in an extremely physical game. The Matrix fell short in the first half on a few opportunities. The Pirates also failed to capitalize on a few chances in the box during the first half. Close at halftime, both sides retreated to the sidelines knowing that they both missed some wonderful opportunities. The second half was a faster paced session. Both coaches made adjustments to create more scoring chances for their respective teams. The Pirates struck first early in the second half with successful rebound of a shot in front of goal despite the heroics the Matrix goalkeeper. Millville responded with an equalizer several minutes later with shot that found its way into the back of the net despite heavy traffic in front. Both teams continued to press the attack late. Highland had a few unsuccessful free kicks deep in Matrix territory. The Pirates also attempted several corner kicks to put pressure on the Matrix. Despite excellent form on their set pieces, Highland was unable to convert thanks to some key plays by the defense and outstanding play by the Matrix gk. The Matrix countered by putting together several breakaways which led to quite a few scoring opportunities. Millville finally hit pay dirt when a rebound was put away late in the game! Special shout outs to the Millville Matrix and the Highland Pirates for a spirited, exciting contest. Well done boys! Join us next week at our home opener as we host the Cherry Hill Dragons. Who Rocks??? We Rock!!! Who Rocks??? We Rock!!!! Go Matrix!!

Updated 9/8/2009

The Matrix took the field against some familiar opponents and one new team. They fought to a draw against long time rival Pittsgrove. Next they faced CDSA of Delaware. Despite some early pressure by the Shockers, the Matrix countered and put home several goals to cruise to a convincing win over the out of town opponents. To finish the day, the Matrix took on the Franklin Township Panthers. The pace was exciting and intense as 3 goals were scored between the two teams in the opening 15 minutes. The Matrix controlled the pace in the second half and pulled away for a thrilling victory. Congratulations Matrix players and coaches to a job well done. Special thanks to the parents who support the team and showed up in full Matrix colors this Sunday. Now the boys will prepare for a tough game versus the World Class FC of Winslow this coming Sunday.

Cohansey Recap
Updated 6/11/2009
After a fierce weekend of competition, the Matrix are still standing tall. The Matrix faced numerous challenges and persevered while compiling a 2-1-1 record. On Saturday, the boys started with a tough draw against their rivals at Pittsgrove. The Matrix regrouped nicely to cruise to an easy victory against the Franklin Panthers. Sunday was a very tough day with matchups against Cape Express and Washington Twp. Both teams presented strong defensive schemes and physical play to contain the Matrix offensive attack. Against Cape Express, the Matrix scored on an early goal and battled courageously to secure the victory. To finish the tournament, the boys faced a very skilled opponent in Washington Twp. Despite scoring on an early PK, the Matrix could not hold on to the lead and eventually fell 1-2. All and all, the Matrix had a very good tournament. This capped off a successful 1st year of travel soccer. Congratulations Matrix players, parents and coaches. The future looks bright for this young team. Summer schedules and camps will be announced soon. GO MATRIX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Millville Matrix traveled to Marlton
Updated 5/18/2009
Matrix vs. Marlton A very good game by the Matrix to closeout the spring 2009 season. The boys put up a very good effort, and the passing was amazing. Given the windy conditions and high grass, the Matrix was still able to move the ball against Marlton and display some of the dribbling/ball skills that they have been perfecting during the season. The Matrix will be taking a few days off to recharge, and will get back to practice on 5/21/09 to prepare for the Cohansey tournament. Awesome job to the parents and the team on a very successful season.

Matrix @ West Deptford
Updated 5/7/2009
Matrix vs. West Deptford What a soccer week!! Rain, rain, and more rain. Game started out with a nice scoring play by West Deptford, successfully navigating the slippery field conditions. The Matrix settled the play and rotated the players in many positions to handle the heavy grass, skipping passes, and pace of the game. The boys made very nice through passes for goals, scored on a penalty shot, and continued to play very competitive defense. The Matrix goalie was active in this game, and made very nice saves to keep the Matrix defense successfull in defending the lead. The next game will be played against Marlton. This is the final Matrix game for the spring 2009 season. The Matrix will now begin its summer program and training. Preparation for the 10 game fall season begins - smile!

Matrix results vs. Pittsgrove
Updated 4/27/2009
Millville Matrix took on cross town tough rivals Pittsgrove. As normal, the games have been both tough and entertaining as the boys U8 teams consistently compete at a high level. The game took place on a very hot day with 87+ degree temperatures, and was entertaining with the matrix scoring 5 goals and the defense playing extremely well. The defense has been able to hold the last 3 teams to only 2 goals in 3 games, and the offense has been able to setup goals from the mid-field and the wings to score 12 goals in 3 games. The Matrix training program has come full circle in this season, and it is proof that the offseason work is paying off for the team. The matrix continues to work on skills and techniques to improve our young players and to teach them the important components in the game. Come see us play........Last 2 games of the season are against West Deptford and Marlton. The Matrix also plans to play in the Cohansey tournament in June. Go Matrix!!
